Scannable and Online Documents

Despite offering a wide range or research services, from initial research design through to statistical analysis and reporting, it is the use by Savant of the latest computer technology to produce printed questionnaires that are computer scannable, and HTML online surveys, that form the core business.

Savant’s scanning system enables up to 1200 double-sided pages to be scanned per hour; with the data automatically being collated, coded, and exported to a customised spreadsheet available in a variety of file formats (e.g., SPSS, Excel).

There are many advantages associated with the use of scannable questionnaires, most notably:

  • the increased speed and accuracy of data entry
  • reduced data entry costs
  • increased aesthetics of the questionnaire
  • the ability to capture a PDF image of each individual questionnaire for archiving purposes.

A survey methodology utilising a HTML questionnaire placed on the Internet also possesses inherent advantages in that it:

  • reduces research costs by eliminating paper, postage, and data entry costs
  • makes the survey accessible irrespective of geographical location
  • can also generate PDF images of each individual electronic response.

A combination of both paper-copy and online modes of completion often results in increased response rates, with a recent project attracting an 84.5% response rate (N= 1552; n = 1312).

Uses for On-line or Computer Scannable Documents

Almost any document that requires information to be completed and returned or submitted is suitable for on-line or direct mail distribution, and upon return of the completed documents, data is collected on-line or by computer scanning.
